Does my AC system affect how well I sleep at night?

We all appreciate our AC system’s ability to keep our homes cool and crisp, especially during those hot summer months. But did you ever wonder if your AC system can impact your quality of sleep at night?

As strange as it might sound, there has been a lot of research into the optimal temperatures for sleeping. Having the right AC system isn’t just about being comfortable, it can have a significant impact on your ability to get a good night’s rest.

The Science

Research has demonstrated that a room temperature maintained at around 65 degrees Fahrenheit is the perfect temperature to complement your body’s natural internal temperature shift during sleep. As your body prepares for sleep, its temp drops slowly leading up to around 5 am. Temperature too hot or too cold can disrupt your body’s natural circadian rhythm and disrupt sleep. This is why having the right AC system is so critical.

Regulation of Room Temperature

  • Install a smart thermostat
  • Set your thermostat on a timer
  • Have your AC system tuned
  • Ensure your AC system fans are properly set to circulate air
  • Consider adding fans to supplement airflow
