Heating Challenges for Central Florida

Although Florida is known for short-lived and generally mild winters as compared to much of the Northern USA, it is not without its cold spells. This is especially true for those who live in central and north Florida.

Yet because of this, there is less focus on yearly maintenance and upkeep of heating systems among Florida home and business owners, leading to an increased number of yearly repairs, additional wear and tear on systems, and inefficient energy consumption.

Common Heating Challenges for Central Florida

1. Poor Insulation
With less thought given to cold wintery months, many contractors and homeowners will skimp on insulation in walls, attics, basements, and even around ductwork. This can lead to loss of heat and increased energy costs.

2. Clogged Air Filters
Out of sight and out of mind, many residents in Florida forget to regularly inspect, clean and/or replace worn or clogged air filters. This is especially important as heat combined with humidity can lead to bacterial, mold or fungal growth.

3. Damage from Moisture
Florida heat and humidity can wreak havoc on HVAC systems, from rust and corrosion, to fostering mold and bacterial growth, and even contraction and expansion of duct joints and seams over time. This alone makes an annual professional inspection something worthwhile.

4. Lack of Maintenance
Given that the heating system for Floridians is only used a couple of months out of the year, the system may not operate efficiently from sitting unused too long.
