The condensate drain (sometimes called the AC drain) is a drain line vital to the operation of your AC unit. This drain provides a means for the unit to take moisture generated from the passing of air through the evaporator coil, and route it out of the system.
In other words, the evaporator coil removes humidity from the air, converting it to water as the air condenses. Without the condensate drain, this water would build-up, putting strain on the AC system, freezing up the unit, and potentially causing damage.
Like any drain, the condensate drain can become clogged. Dirt, microbial growth, algae, moss, grime, insect nests, pests and debris can cause this drain to become obstructed. When this happens, it can cause considerable water damage to the surrounding area as well as your AC system.
Common Condensate Drain Repair Issues:
The good news is that simple routine maintenance and yearly or bi-annual checkups on your AC unit can detect potential problems early while keeping your system running optimally from one season to the next.
