Should I Repair or Replace my HVAC Unit?

Should I Repair or Replace my HVAC Unit?

EnergyStar, a global non-profit organization committed to energy savings and reducing carbon footprints suggests that your HVAC unit should be replaced between 10-15 years from purchase.

However, leading up to that point, usually around year 8, many home and business owners will notice a decline in efficiency and an increased frequency of repairs.

When weighing your options, you should determine how long the manufacturer suggests the lifespan of your unit to be, and how well maintained it has been over the years. Things like routine maintenance and annual tuning can extend its life, while lack of maintenance and living in a harsh climate can wear a unit down faster.

Then take the approximate years left on your unit, and factor in the cost of ongoing and common repairs to determine if dropping money into a failing unit is worth the cost, or whether that money would be better spent on replacing your HVAC unit altogether.
Another good idea is to have your HVAC unit professionally inspected. Our team can help you figure out how many more years your unit has left.

EnergyStar recommends replacing your AC unit every 10 to 15 years. If you have an eight-year-old or older air conditioning system, it may not be worth the cost to repair it unless the repair is an easy fix, like a worn fan belt or a clogged condenser unit.
